In May and June 2020, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) illegally tapped into a private camera network operated by the Union Square Business Improvement District to conduct live surveillance of protesters during demonstrations following George Floyd’s murder. The ACLU and other civil rights organizations sued San Francisco over this illegal use of the camera network.
